Vastu Shastra, the original, green sustainable design system, originated in India 10,000 years ago. Although it is known primarily for architecture, it covers a vast range of poetry, dance, sculpture, etc. The Sanskrit word "vastu" means "energy" or "imperishable substance." Vaastu shastra describes various criteria which determine the choice of a site. All places of dwelling are termed vastu but the actual physical manifestation of the dwelling is called vaastu.
